A Woman Who Cuts Her Hair + Giveaway Winner

A Woman Who Cuts Her Hair + Giveaway Winner

Who would've thought me, Tacheyana Langston, would have a TWA (teeny weeny afro) AGAIN after reaching bra-strap length? I can't say, "never in a million years did I think I would cut all of my hair off", because that would be a reach. During my first trimester I contemplated chopping it all off, but I learned that that's pretty normal during pregnancy. Everyone I know tried to talk me out of it. "Just let it grow out." It took me 3.5 years to get to where I am now, I would look crazy.

February 12th, around 7:54 pm the cutting commenced. I honestly thought I would cry once I started, but it was the total opposite. I laughed. As I trimmed some more, I felt liberated. I felt free. People often associate me with my hair, and don’t get me wrong it’s nice, but I’d like to be known for something greater than having thick long hair. This cut minimizes the time I spend on my hair, which is A LOT, and focus on other parts of me.

After cutting my hair I did a Bentonite Clay & Apple Cider hair mask. This mixture acts as a clarifying shampoo, a scalp detox, and a curl definer. I normally leave it on for 45 minutes to an hour after applying it from root to ends, massaging it into my scalp. You can leave it on for a longer or shorter time, just your personal preference. When rinsing it out, I use only water to get most of it out ensuring to massage my scalp so all the clay is out. I follow up with a cowash just to be sure all of it is out. Following up the second wash with a deep conditioner, and then moisturizing it once my wash day is complete.

I haven’t fully gotten used to having my hair this short, and for a few days I struggled with keeping it moisturized. Currently every morning I soak it with warm water and apply Shea Moisture Manila Honey & Manfura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditoner, my absolute favorite conditioner. Once the conditioner is rinsed out, I moisturize using the LCO method. Using the As I Am Leave-In conditioner for my liquid, Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil for my Cream, and Qhemet Biologics Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm for my oil. Please keep in mind that while this process may work great for me, it may not work for you. All of our curls are unique.
